スティーブ・ジョブズは、iPod の外見を損ねるものには、カバーであれ何であれ、非常に敏感に反応するのだ。
私は彼とのインタビューを録音する際に、外付けマイクと iPod を持っていったことがある。
「iSkin」という透明プラスチックのカバーをつけた iPod を鞄から取り出した途端、彼は私に名画「モナリザ」に牛の糞をなすりつけた犯罪者を見るような目を向けたものだ。
もちろん私は、繊細なiPodに傷や汚れをつけたくないのだと言い訳したが、彼は聞き入れようとしなかった。
「僕は、擦り傷のついたステンレスを美しいと思うけどね。僕たちだって似たようなもんだろう？
僕は来年には五十歳だ。傷だらけの iPod と同じだよ」
